Strawberry Festival Waupaca, Wisconsin – Travel Vignette
As polka music plays in the background the smell of strawberries wafts through the air alluring us toward its sweetness. It smells like sunshine. It sounds like joy. We had just finished breakfast at Little Fat Gretchen’s, fresh baked French bread, with strawberries of course, and Raisin Toast. My youngest in the baby carrier started bobbing to the music inciting a happy bounce march. Slowly, we made our way through the vendors searching for the aroma calling out to our noses. Our senses missed it on the first pass, even though it was right in the middle, distracted by the colors of all the flashy wares on display. No, we did not miss in on the second run. Strawberries! Sweetened by the sun. Red and dripping with juice. Our youngest promptly selected the best basket of red fruit by pointing and saying OOOOOH! We ate some down by the river park, in the playground, and while watching the polka band at the gazebo. Delightfully sweet and warmed by the sun, this is what summer taste like!

The Strawberry Festival is held in downtown Waupaca every summer. They have many vendors, live music, food, kids’ activities, and strawberries. There’s a lot to offer and smiles all around. We didn’t even make it to the model train display. This year it was held June 16th.
